ABOUT LIBRARY
The Brahmaputra Degree College Library was established in 1993 and now it is located in the midst of the academic complex of the college, with carpet area of1800 sq ft. It is a well equipped, modern library with more than 3588 books, 2500 reference books, 5 encyclopedias, 15 dictionaries and 10 rare books. Different types of periodic, research journals and newspapers both regional and national are also available in the library. The library is divided into four service sections as Book Bank, the reference/ lending section, Digital-Library section and Reading Room. The library has an ambitious plan for modernization. The SOUL 2.0 Software is installed in the library for easy access to its resources. The library is connected with Wi-Fi network for internet service to its users. Separate reading rooms for teachers, boy`s and girls` students with seating capacities 40 at once.

To be a knowledge centered, enabling intense intellectual inquiry by providing a dynamic learning environment and proactively linking the generation with knowledge.

MISSION
To provide comprehensive resources and service in support of research, teaching and learning needs of the academic community. To facilitate access to right information at the right time in the right moment so as to produce productive citizens to the great nation in general and to our community in particular.

OBJECTIVES
*Develop and maintain an understanding of the library`s current and potential users and their needs, and to respond to them appropriately-
*Develop information resources and provide easy access to them.
*Develop human resource of the library to ensure delivery of quality services and to maintain high level of professionalism.
*Develop and implement a systematic approach to market the library and its services.
*Exploit the potential of technology in all areas to deliver a wide spectrum of excellent information services.
*Collaborate, affiliate and co-operate with organizations worldwide to share resources, enhance productivity.
*Implement the efficient system of library management.
*Inculcate quality practices

MEMBERSHIP
The main objective of the library is to support the academic needs of the college community. The library has the following categories of the members borrowing facilities.

Category of the member Borrowing
1.Teaching Staff books
2.Non-Teaching books
3.Student books

N.B. Special borrowing will be facilitated to the meritorious poor students.

Decision Making
All the important decisions of the library are taken by the Library Advisory Committee where students are also made involved.

Rules and Regulations
1.The library is kept open from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM on working days.
2.Only registered members are allowed to use the Library.
3.On entry, members are required to produced Identity Card issued by the authority.
4.On entering the library, every member shall be required to write legibly his/ her name, Class, Roll no and department in the visitors register keep for the purpose at the entrance of the library.
5.While entering the library all personal belongings such as bags, umbrella, boxes, files, personal books etc. shall be deposited at the property counter.
6.Students can borrow books against their library cards. Books are normally issued for a period of 7 days.
7.Library Cards are not transferable. Borrowers are responsible for the books issued against the Library Card if lost.
8.Readers should observe “ STRICT SILENCE” in the library reading room.


Penalty for Irresponsible Conduct
Users may be penalized for intentional damage to library property including books, periodicals, magazines and other valuable materials. Return of library materials at the end of each session:

All library materials must be returned to the library, on or before the date notified by the library. Failure to return library materials lay the due date may lead to debarring of the defaulter from taking the semester examination.

Other Rules
A. When the students have any complain absent the library service they should not enter into any argument with the library staff, but bring it to the notice of the librarian in writing.
B. In all matters, the librarian shall have the power to take such an action as he/ she may deem fit.

Change of Rules
The Library Rules may be amended or altered as and when necessary.
